Want not should. Three words or really two words that can define so much…
This time last year I started working with Scott Hardiman to help me through a lot of the challenges that I was going through and these words came up very early in the discussions we had.
Reflecting back now 12 months on – these three words have really changed a lot of my thinking and perspectives on life. It’s so easy to get wrapped up in the whirlwind of the day to day and at times think about “oh I should really do this or that” and you suddenly find yourself just going through the motions of life doing things you don’t really “want” to do.
I really tried to change my thinking last year to think about what I “want” to do. Time flies past so quick and it’s so important to focus on what you want to do. Be that how you want to live your life, that event you have always wanted to go to, buy that item you have always thought about.
I have also used it to reflect on what I feel I should be doing. Sometimes you feel that you “should” be just doing that email or that “thing” but in reality do you need to? Who’s putting that pressure on you to achieve that? Or is it just yourself?
Whilst it’s 3 small words it’s certainly something that I am going to continue to reflect on as I move into 2025 of how I spend my time and what’s more important to me at that moment.
Give it a go yourself – what’s your “want not should?”
